Sinking Worlds: Neptune Direct

The British-Guyanan underwater artist Jason deCaires Taylor is part of a worldwide movement of artists transforming spaces on the seafloor into underwater galleries.

Neptune stations direct at 11º28 Pisces on Wednesday (November 22nd) at 9:21am ET, after being retrograde since June 16, 2017.

Neptune rules over transcendence and the road we take to get there. From mediation to addiction, Neptune is linked to anything that melts the frontiers of the real and gives access to the imaginal, the spiritual and the all-encompassing oceanic oneness.

From inspiration to delusion to every state in between, Neptune injects the artist with its muse and gives the romantic his rose-colored glasses.

Neptune transports us beyond the limiting confines of the material world and, into the underlying eternal truth.

Depending on where 11º of Pisces falls in your chart, you can expect these themes to be highlighted this week. Perhaps the wish to escape or transcend will be stronger or you could find yourself waking up from a foggy journey. If you have deluded yourself, this could be a time of greater clarity and inspiration. You could feel the need to return to a spiritual practice or be inspired to create again.

With Neptune stationing direct this week, art, cinema, creativity, spirituality, intoxication and poisons, music, mysticism and revelations could all be on the menu.

If you have important planets or your Ascendant is between 8-15 degrees of the Mutable signs, this station will be more significant.

“It is by going down into the abyss that we recover the treasures of life. Where you stumble there lies your treasure.” -Joseph Campbell

You can’t put all Scorpios in one basket

Most people know their Sun sign mainly because of popular horoscopes and pop astrology. Fortunately, there is a lot more to astrology than a Sun sign and there are important distinctions to make when you begin to learn more about astrology.

The 3 ”pillars” of a natal chart are the Sun, the Moon and the Rising sign. Your Sun sign might not be the same as your Moon sign or your Rising sign.

SUN IN SCORPIO
⊙♏︎

These Scorpios are the most mysterious ones. Inscrutable they will dodge any attempts at being found out. Under the cover of whatever rising sign they might be, they have the ability to hide their depth and intensity if they wish to do so. They could be outgoing on the surface but under an apparent candid demeanor hides a powerful will. Sun in Scorpio are secretive and only a few lucky people will ever be granted entrance into their private quarters. Scorpio’s specialty is defensiveness and these guys embody this principle straight into their core. They see right through deception and hypocritical behavior so there is really no point in lying to them.  Scorpio Sun are faithful friends and partners and will hold-on to the bitter end (and beyond). Their essence is composed of a mixture of willpower, control and fixity.

MOON IN SCORPIO ☽♏︎

Moon in Scorpio people have extremely acute senses and a penetrating intuition. When the sharp vision of Scorpio is combined with the impressionability and security oriented lunar principles we get people who are full of emotional and psychic sensitivity. These Scorpio can FEEL and PERCEIVE things that pretty much no one else can see. They are extremely vulnerable to the ebb and flow of power that run through all interactions. These insights into human nature renders them both cynical and emotionally complex but they are full of compassion for the brokenness of the world. Moon in Scorpio people have a visceral relationship to pain which is a curse and a blessing. They will instinctively side with the underdogs as it is in their nature to want to defend and protect the most vulnerable.

SCORPIO RISING
Asc ♏︎

If you know your astrology, then you know that the rising sign is often linked to the physical appearance. Scorpio rising people are like the stereotype of what we might imagine a Scorpio to be. Their classic signature is a dark magnetic stare with piercing eyes that can make them look more cunning or mysterious than they really are. Scorpio rising people have a strong animal magnetism that can either be attractive or repulsive depending on their level of intensity. Like Scorpio Sun and Scorpio Moon, Scorpio rising’s specialty is defensiveness and they will go to great lengths to cover up their most tender parts. Under their cool and distant demeanor hides an underflow of turmoil and stormy waters. Scorpio rising people have a close relationship to intensity and can thrive in extreme situations. They need to constantly challenge themselves in order to feel their potency, otherwise, they can become brooding and self-destructive.

On the Chiron/Saturn square

The Moon is in Pisces and will meet Neptune later tonight. This can be both mystical and transcending as the Sun (in Scorpio) and the Moon are in deeply intimate waters right now. We could feel more impressionable and inspired with our attention turned towards spiritual matters.

Tomorrow night, the Moon in Pisces will conjunct Chiron and trigger the Chiron/Saturn square, just in time for Halloween.

The Chiron/Saturn square is the big signature aspect this week and it is both difficult and rewarding. We could be aware of old wounds while also being ready to move on from that space of hurt.

This aspect is a mixture of realization around painful truth and healing. You could feel sensitive and self-conscious of your downfalls while experiencing some closure around them. It’s like having the raw awareness of where it hurts in order to locate the pain, forgive yourself and hopefully move on.

It’s hard and edgy but also rewarding if you make the effort to be honest with yourself. It calls for maturity around our most vulnerable selves.

“I said: what about my eyes?
He said: Keep them on the road.

I said: What about my passion?
He said: Keep it burning.

I said: What about my heart?
He said: Tell me what you hold inside it?

I said: Pain and sorrow.
He said: Stay with it.
The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”

― Jalaluddin Rumi

Sun in Scorpio: October 23 to November 21

“My heart is not captured easily. I am
disinterested in small talk,
disillusioned with love, and too focused
on my dreams and aspirations to
lend anybody my attention for long.
But if we make that connection,
if you find your way into my heart,
God, I will fall for you like gravity has
let go of the earth.”

Mercury in Scorpio

Mercury just entered the sign of Scorpio early this morning and will conjunct Jupiter on Wednesday October 18, 2017.

You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen

If you are the dealer
I’m out of the game
If you are the healer
I’m broken and lame
If thine is the glory
Then mine must be the shame
You want it darker
We kill the flame

Magnified and sanctified
Be Thy Holy Name
Vilified and crucified
In the human frame
A million candles burning
For the help that never came
You want it darker
We kill the flame

Hineni Hineni
I’m ready, my Lord

There’s a lover in the story
But the story is still the same
There’s an lullaby for suffering
And a paradox to blame
But it’s written in the scriptures
And it’s not some idle claim
You want it darker
We kill the flame

They’re lining up the prisoners now
The guards are taking aim
I struggled with some demons
They were middle-class and tame
Didn’t know I had permission
To murder and to maim
You want it darker
We kill the flame

Hineni Hineni
I’m ready, my Lord

Magnified and sanctified
Be Thy Holy Name
Vilified and crucified
In the human frame
A million candles burning
For the love that never came
You want it darker
We kill the flame

If you are the dealer
I’m out of the game
If you are the healer
I’m broken and lame
If thine is the glory
Then mine must be the shame
You want it darker
We kill the flame

Hineni Hineni
I’m ready, my Lord

NEW MOON IN LIBRA: A TENSE EQUILIBRIUM

The New Moon in Libra occurs on October 19 at 15:13 EDT in the very last degrees of the Scales just a few days before the Sun’s ingress into Scorpio.

THE TIPPING POINT

The New Moon at 26º Libra will be in a tight opposition to rebel planet Uranus which is at 26º Aries. Uranus is often associated with sudden breakthroughs and shocks that serves to jolt us out of complacency. Uranus in Aries is like an untamed, wild and defiant teenager who will do exactly the opposite of what you ask him to do. Uranus in the sign of Aries doesn’t have patience for conventions and niceties; it forges ahead without foresight straight into the eye of the storm to challenge the Gods. Uranus is that voice that says: ”just go for it, try it and see what happens”. Acting on impulse, following a crazy idea, a revelation that brings a revolution, it’s the lightning that strikes the genius and the mad ones. It’s that impetuous urge to move against the docile heard to find a new direction, a new way of doing things; a different way.

Then, we have this New Moon in Libra which is all about fairness and compromises or at least finding the balance between ”what you want” and ”what I want”. Venus just entered the sign of Libra on October 14 and is at home here. Venus rules over the New Moon and accentuates the  themes of partnerships and agreements. The focus is on finding a peaceful way to remediate the disequilibrium we might be experiencing in our lives. The desire for collaboration is strong, we want to get along and both parties are looking for ways to reconcile their difference. The idea of harmony and balance is held high like a precious gem that seems to be just out of reach. We stretch our arms towards it, trying to catch its rare glow only to find a molten piece of poisonous  lead.

This New Moon points its finger directly at what is out of synch an unbalance in our lives. It’s the trigger that urges us to find new and better ways to deal with it. We could feel a sense of urgency in regards to establishing some form of harmony that would rectify the chaos and disorder. Partnership are especially susceptible to this at the moment as we weigh the pros and cons of our agreements. The grass always seems greener somewhere else and Libra loves to keep her options open. Uranus opposing the Sun and Moon in Libra could bring a sudden desire to break free from something that feels too restrictive. With the Sun, the Moon and Venus in Libra we must bow down to our current agreements and fulfill our part of the contract. Even though peace seems to be a complicated and elusive notion at this time it must remain a guiding ideal.

It is in this paradoxical landscape that this new lunar cycle begins. We will soon enter the Fixed season of Scorpio and descend even further into our commitments but also the decisions we make towards transformation. Now is the time to use the power of reason to decide what we want so that our attention and focus can be well directed for the month ahead.

Jupiter in Scorpio

 Here it goes!

Jupiter just entered the deep and dark waters of Scorpio for 13 months. Last time Jupiter was here was in 2005-06. We will see what will come out of this transit in the next several months.

Scorpio is a Fixed-Water sign.
Emotions and instinct run deep and are enduring here.

Jupiter’s transit in these bad lands will obviously be significant for anyone who has their Sun, Moon or rising in Scorpio.

Jupiter being the traditional ruler of Pisces and the ruler of Sagittarius also means that these guys will receive an extra dose of Scorpion juice in the next year.

Finally, if you have your Sun or Moon in any of the other Fixed sign (Aquarius, Taurus, Leo) you will also get acquainted with Guru Jupiter preaching out of these waters.

Mercury Cazimi

Mercury’s superior conjunction is today at 16:42 EST

Mercury will pass very close to the Sun in the sky as its orbit carries it around the far side of the solar system from the Earth. If a planet is right at the core of the Sun, then it is utterly consumed and this is called being ‘cazimi’. Mercury going into the heart of the Sun means that for a small window of time Mercury is super powered while sitting on the royal throne.

Mercury briefly strengthened by its union with the Solar principle, gives us an opportunity to unite mind and spirit. Our thoughts can be purified, clarified and renewed in the Solar forge.

Mercury and the Sun together in Libra could give us insights as to where things might have gotten unbalanced, unfair, unjust and, the solutions needed to rectify the scales.

The Sun in Libra is considered in its ”fall” and pretty weak. It’s also the time of the year when things are dying as opposed to coming to life. With Mercury conjunct the Sun today I imagine realization and clarity will tend to be more around endings, death and decay as oppose to new beginnings and there is a definite liminal quality to this time of the year.

Mercury and the Sun will also square Pluto at the moment of their conjunction. This means that the unusual clarity we receive today could be combined with the urge to tear down and transform some of the existing structures in our lives.
Do not expect today’s sharpness to be long-lasting. The lucidity that comes with the Sun/Mercury conjunction will quickly vanish once Mercury leaves the Solar throne. Then, the real work of implementing what was revealed begins.

There is a long and arduous road ahead, but today’s answers can be kept in your mind’s eye to illuminate the path.

Weekend of October 6-8: Let the soft animal of your body

After the dynamic Full Moon in Aries of the last few days, the Moon is heading for the green pastures of Taurus from Friday night to Sunday night (EST). Basically 50 hours of the Moon being in the sign of its exaltation. With Venus and Mars still tightly conjunct in Virgo, the weekend brings us back down to Earth and into our bodies. Taurus AND Virgo are Earth signs; the focus shifts to logistic and practicalities in our lives.

There are a few ways we can handle this Earthy weekend. Venus in Virgo which rules the Moon in Taurus will be square to Saturn all weekend. We could spend the next 2 days worrying about social status, the material side of reality, focusing on what is lacking, worrying about money, work and everything that still needs to be done before we are happy, successful and, perfect.

Resources could be a concern and the next 2 days are excellent for managing them and for organizing your projects and schedule. Just don’t get too obsessive about it. Patience for the process will go a long way.

The next 2 days also support self-care, stretching, hiking, creative projects and crafts, spending time in nature and cooking. Listen to what your body is telling you and find the right measure of pragmatism and relaxation. Over-indulgence and sensuality are strongly indicated and the Moon in Taurus is always good for spending time in the kitchen. If you have been planning to make preserves from the Fall harvest, this weekend is the perfect time for it.

Have a great one!

Moon in Taurus: Friday @ 19:56 EST to Sunday @ 21:44 EST

FULL MOON IN ARIES: Collaboration & Resistance

*Astrology is a multi-layered language and interpretation can be applied to many levels simultaneously, from the mundane to our own personal landscape.

THE POWER OF THE SCALES

Trying to solve a problem from a place of righteousness won’t give you a good outcome. In fact, it will most likely leave you with a bitter taste in your mouth. A lot of things are unfair in this world. Everyday we witness the unbalance of power on all levels. Sometime resistance is futile but sometime resistance is necessary. What is the right measure of assertion? Do we need to go to extremes to get justice and equality? Is fighting for peace a sustainable option? All of this depends on the circumstance and, can change from one situation to the next. Justice is blind and the power of the scale is great indeed but what happens when the scales are unbalanced?

The Full Moon in Aries on the 5th of October illuminates the war zones and the territories where the battles take place; externally, internally and particularly in our interpersonal relationships. Since we are in the midst of Libra season, with three planets in Libra, peaceful resolution and compromises are favored. However, compromising can sometime be our downfall. This Full Moon can bring the need to assert our desires amidst a negotiation process. It can also be about not getting what we want and having to live with that fact for now.

VENUS & MARS

Venus and Mars (in Virgo) will meet in the sky at the time of the Full Moon. Mars is the ruler of the Moon in Aries and Venus the ruler of the Sun in Libra; do you see the picture being painted? Venus and Mars dancing together while the Sun and Moon oppose each other. There is an edginess to our desires; we know what we want and we want it now.

In the sign of Virgo, Mars and Venus can be analytical and picky. Virgo can sometime strive for perfection which result in being completely dissatisfied with the status quo. The higher the standards, the higher the chances of being let down.

The Full Moon represents a time of opposition and polarization but also a time of completion.  This means that even though we might have a tendency to focus on what is not working at the moment, we are reaching a point of saturation. We have located the areas where the bridges must be built or torn down. This Full Moon illuminates our need for independence and space amidst our collaborations. This Full Moon illuminates the escalating impatience within a negotiation process. The Mars and Venus conjunction allows us to see with a critical eye the complexity of our relationships. There are no easy answer and we have to live with the constant push and pull that regulates much of our interactions but also much of our desires.

I DO IT BETTER

The Full Moon in Aries culminates a few days after Pluto turns direct. Pluto also trines the Venus and Mars conjunction while the Sun in Libra conjunct Mercury. There is a slight edge of competition and obsession behind our interactions and this is so subtle that it might be taken for something else. However, we should remember that people are pushing their own agenda and this could become more obvious with the Full Moon in Aries. Libra is sometime compared to an iron fist in a velvet glove. With the Full Moon in Aries rising we could see suave tactics being employed for completely selfish purposes. It could also be that the smooth talkers reveal their impatience or that the curtain of glamour falls down. Regardless of the scenarios that arises with this Full Moon, peaceful resolution and collaboration will need to be balanced with our own needs and desires. The urge to stand our ground will be strong and in certain circumstance necessary.

Glimpse of Law Series – Installment 2: The East Corridor Paintings.

Image 1:
” Corrupt Legislation, the seated figure holds half a scale – a symbol that the balance of justice is missing.  The corrupt person places a bag of coins on the scale’s only pan, implying that money can sway the law.  An open book lies on the corrupt person’s lap, and on the fore-edge of the book are the words, “The Law.”  The corrupt person can twist the law to serve his own means.”

Image 3:
” The law book shows up again in the Anarchy panel. It is the larger tome at the foot of the central figure.  During times of anarchy, the law is cast aside, along with the arts (lyre), learning (the scroll), and religion (the smaller book).  The figure of Violence on the right is removing a cornerstone from an edifice.  I interpret this as the weakening of legal institutions, though it could be interpreted as any institution.”
