Mercury’s superior conjunction is today at 16:42 EST
Mercury will pass very close to the Sun in the sky as its orbit carries it around the far side of the solar system from the Earth. If a planet is right at the core of the Sun, then it is utterly consumed and this is called being ‘cazimi’. Mercury going into the heart of the Sun means that for a small window of time Mercury is super powered while sitting on the royal throne.
Mercury briefly strengthened by its union with the Solar principle, gives us an opportunity to unite mind and spirit. Our thoughts can be purified, clarified and renewed in the Solar forge.
Mercury and the Sun together in Libra could give us insights as to where things might have gotten unbalanced, unfair, unjust and, the solutions needed to rectify the scales.
The Sun in Libra is considered in its ”fall” and pretty weak. It’s also the time of the year when things are dying as opposed to coming to life. With Mercury conjunct the Sun today I imagine realization and clarity will tend to be more around endings, death and decay as oppose to new beginnings and there is a definite liminal quality to this time of the year.
Mercury and the Sun will also square Pluto at the moment of their conjunction. This means that the unusual clarity we receive today could be combined with the urge to tear down and transform some of the existing structures in our lives.
Do not expect today’s sharpness to be long-lasting. The lucidity that comes with the Sun/Mercury conjunction will quickly vanish once Mercury leaves the Solar throne. Then, the real work of implementing what was revealed begins.
There is a long and arduous road ahead, but today’s answers can be kept in your mind’s eye to illuminate the path.
Mercury conjunct the Sun @ 15º Libra and square Pluto @ 16º Capricorn
The Sun just entered the sign of Aquarius on January 19 where it will stay until February 18.
Before the New Moon in Aquarius on January 27, the Moon will travel through Sagittarius and Capricorn. We can expect the next few days to be full of heated debates and self-righteous dialogues as the Moon applies to a conjunction with Saturn. At its best, Saturn in Sagittarius can be about having faith in our convictions which help fuel our ideas and bring some structure to what we believe in. At its worst, Saturn in Sagittarius becomes dogmatic and fanatical, imposing its point of view in a one way preaching of its truth, testing the solidity and validity of our faith. Since the ruler of the Moon in Sagittarius is Jupiter in the sign of the scales (Libra) the debates and conversations will most likely revolve around equality and inequality, justice and injustice, right vs. wrong, relational issues and the delicate balance of it all.
The Moon will also briefly square Mars at 29 degrees of Pisces as it prepares to ingress in the sign of its rulership of Aries. Note that both the last decan of Pisces and the first decan of Aries are ruled by Mars – emphasizing the martial qualities of this time period.
The Moon moves into the sign of Capricorn on Wednesday January 24 at 17:43 EST and will make some lovely aspects mainly a sextile to Neptune in Pisces and a conjunction to Mercury in Capricorn which could bring some conversations around the topics of healing, compassion and mercy. Thursday promises to be a day filled with challenges as the Moon in Capricorn conjunct Pluto in the early morning hours and then square Uranus in Aries and Jupiter in Libra. Thursday evening the Moon sextile Venus in Pisces, applying a balm on the heat of the last few days.
With the Sun in Aquarius, the desire for freedom and independence is very strong. Freedom of thoughts, freedom of speech and the tendency to rebel against the existing structures while also wanting to reform and bring about new and better ways of doing things. Feeling left-out of the conversation and the impression of not belonging anywhere could permeate the next month while the Sun travels in Aquarius. Themes of exile and frontiers could set us apart which in turn could create a state of disillusionment and alienation.
Take a Breather
The time preceding the New Moon is called the Dark Moon and it describes the Moon when it is invisible against the backdrop of the Sun. It is the last phase of the lunar cycle before it begins again.
Astrologically speaking, the last 3 days before the New Moon represent a time of rest, of letting go, of sorting out and making space for what is ready to begin in the upcoming month. The days leading to the New Moon are best spent nurturing and resting the body in preparation for the month ahead. One of the best way to spend the next few days, is to seek space and get out for a hike, stretch and relax. Stretch the mind, stretch the body and seek openness. The desire for change is strong but judgmental and self-righteous behaviours might be even stronger, creating division and arguments instead of unity. This can be depleting or draining instead of being productive. Use this Dark Moon period to regroup, tie-up loose ends and finish things. New ideas and new ways of doing will naturally start emerging in the process and you will be fresh and ready to tackle February which promises to be a big month.
The New Moon on January 27 at 19:07 EST is in the sign of Aquarius and its ruler Saturn in Sagittarius will be square to Venus in Pisces. This indicate tension between certain structures in our lives, our beliefs, our values and our ability (or inability) to find sweetness amidst the harshness and difficulties of these times. Feeling limited and opressed while seeking or craving beauty and exaltation. Our ability to find what brings us together (Venus) versus what divides us (Saturn) will set the tone for the month ahead. Since Aquarius is linked to innovation, perhaps now is the time to begin applying new and better ways of doing things.
The best way to predict the future is to invent it. -Alan Kay
A Full Moon in Libra and partial lunar eclipse happened yesterday in the early hours close to the North Node of the Moon sometime called the head of the Dragon.
Eclipses will vary in intensity depending on many factors including whether it is a total or partial, Lunar or Solar eclipse and if it takes place close to the South Node (Tail of the Dragon) or the North Node (Head of the Dragon).
They usually come in pairs and we had a Solar eclipse in Pisces on March 8th and one yesterday March 23rd in the sign of Libra.
Some astrologers compare eclipses or the time in between them as having similar effect as the more widely known Mercury retrograde. Unexpected events, delays, misunderstanding or problems with technologies can be one of the symptoms. An eclipse represent a time when one of our two major luminaries (Sun or Moon) is being obscured either by the shadow of the Moon in the case of a Solar eclipse or the shadow of the Earth in the case of a Lunar eclipse. This temporary darkness is an opening, an energetic trigger for things to come into existence or disappear into the void. Shadows are associated with what we cannot see, blindness or a lack of something. While something is being obscured, it is also an opening into the deep and eternal darkness. This time can be very energizing for some while others can feel extremely drained, stressed out and tired.
Eclipse will also affect people differently depending on where it falls in their natal birth chart. Positive or negative effects like the birth of a child, a marriage, sickness, a major turning point, ending and beginnings are associated with eclipses.
The temporary obstruction of the light sees the darkness that dwells in between the worlds take shape and materialize. This blackness colours our awareness for a moment and can bring about surprising turn of events.
Yesterday’s eclipse in Libra is the last one of a series on the Libra-Aries axis that started in 2014.
This eclipse highlights themes of interpersonal and personal relationships and the need to find balance between taking and giving. We can feel torn between selfish or bold reactions versus selfless compromises to reach middle ground. There is an emphasis on whether the motives behind our decisions are ego driven of based in the higher spirits of fairness and harmony.
This is definitely not an easy feat.
We could be torn between the need to follow our own path while also being asked to collaborate or compromise. We cannot exclude the need we have for others in our lives, our need to be seen and acknowledged. Every relationship is a mixture of give and take with a small dose of compromises and a big dose of collaboration. Problem arises when we compromise our own integrity.
This last eclipse in Libra could be the final push towards solidifying an alliance, a situation, a state of mind or letting it go all together and realigning towards a more balance and centered state. A process that started in 2014 could find resolution but whether this will be fair and just could be a matter of circumstances. We could see ourselves oscillating between two opposites for another few weeks until we find the just measure.
The Moon is in Capricorn for the rest of the day and just left a conjunction with Pluto triggering the recent cardinal t-square between Mars, Uranus and Pluto. Those of you with personal planets in cardinal signs (Aries-Libra-Cancer-Capricorn) could be especially sensitive to the changes that are trying to occur.
The image: Tectonic plates are shifting. There are significant structural changes happening with far reaching results which might be invisible to the naked eye. Tectonic plates moving around can also cause earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. This is part of a bigger process.
There is a desire to move in a new direction. We can see all the work that needs to be done and we are willing to roll up our sleeves. We could feel serious and determined as we take on new responsibilities. We also have to collaborate with others in the process. Finding compromises that work for both parties involved.
The spirit is moving forward seeking change and renewal.
Venus enters Scorpio the sign of her detriment just in time for some potentially difficult planetary weather. The Moon will be in Libra all weekend ruled by Venus in Scorpio. Mars @ 14º Libra will perfect a square to Pluto in Capricorn on Sunday while being in mutual reception with Venus in Scorpio.
*It’s interesting to note that Mars is the traditional ruler of Scorpio while Pluto is the modern ruler. They will square each other while co-ruling Venus. A square or 90º angle between planets is associated with tension that stimulate action.
Putting the technical lingo aside, the next few days promises to be anything but calm. Unstable relationships or anything that was put on the back burner especially in regards to partnership could be where the action takes place. The diplomatic effort could very well crumble if the desire for power and assertion is not seriously kept in check. This can happen on the world stage as much as in our personal lives.
At its best, these planetary alignments can bring to the surface information that remained in the shadows until now. There could be a pressing need to transform a stagnating scenario or get to the heart of the matter with someone. Both the Moon in Libra and Venus in Scorpio want to relate. Venus being the intelligent use of charm, she helps us refine and bring harmony to the rough and crude aspects of ourselves. When Venus spends time in Scorpio, the hunger to fulfill our needs can take precedence over peace and harmony. We could be throwing out the more superficial approach when interacting with others in favor of satisfying a need for closeness, fusion and truth.
Of course, when we try to push our agenda on others forcefully, we almost always meet resistance. It might be difficult to see the manipulative tactics we or other employ since the sign of Scorpio rules unconscious urges and desires.
If anything, remember to keep it cool in the next few days. Sunday December 6th will be the exact square of Mars and Pluto but we could see its repercussion well into the week. This is a brief but intense period and flexibility will be your best asset. Keep in mind that further analysis of your birth chart and where these planets are transiting will determine where the action is taking place in your life.
Venus enters Scorpio December 4th @ 11:15PM EST and will be in Scorpio until December 30th The Moon moves in the sign of Libra December 4th @ 5:34PM EST Mars @ 14º Libra square Pluto @ 14º Capricorn December 6th @ 3:52PM EST
Black Moon Lilith or BML ingress into the sign of Libra late on the 25th of August and she will remain there until May 20th 2016.
Libra is often associated with relationships. It is in the 7th sign of the zodiac that we finally step outside of ourselves to look around. In the first half of the zodiac starting with Aries we are shaped by immediate needs. As we progress, we become aware of the existence of others. The teenager grows into an adult and finds out that to be part of society, one must compromise, adjust and recalibrate his needs to meet with others. The: I want! of Aries becomes the: What do you think? of Libra. The individual will meet others halfway and partnerships are formed. We start to understand ourselves through the feedback we receive and others take on the role of a mirror. Self is developed in connection to another.
Enters Lilith, Queen of the Night.
In astrology the Black Moon is calculated from several factors. The main factor being the lunar apogee or the spot where the Moon reaches its maximum distance from the Earth. (Please note that there are several different point used in astrology to identify Lilith but I am focused on BML who is transiting in Libra until May 2016.)
Through history, Lilith has been depicted as a hostile creature, a devourer of children. First wife of Adam in The Alphabet of Ben Sira and a hostile demon according to The Zohar. Lilith was a foreign spirit, and intruder and charms were made to ward her off. Lilith was sometime depicted as a nocturnal seductress or spirit that steal man’s semen during the night to create her demon babies. (We can imagine where those myths came from).
Some researched work from Jewish feminists urges us to re-examine Lilith’s depiction surrounding Lilith’s character as a demoness, claiming that it originated from the same source that satirically dealt with flatulence, incest, and masturbation. (2)
For centuries, Lilith cropped up in art and literature as the archetypal rebellious woman. Although her character changed over time, one thing that stayed the same was her hair, which is always described as long, unkempt and messy. This is significant because of the way that hair has long been tied to the history of gender roles and representations of women. (3)
In astrology, she is interpreted as the instinctual side that is often pushed to the darkest corners of our psyche as something too wild, too raw, too sexual, too angry and uncontrollable for society. Modern astrological interpretations of Lilith are connected to the expression of the long repression of female sexuality by the established patriarchy. So of course Lilith is angry.
According to Juan Antonio Revilla, Black Moon Lilith takes hold of our emotions. It is a reactive point, never a point of integration. As such, it can cause strong identifications or very powerful projections of unconscious emotions which may not be recognized as such. His thoughts on it is that it always works at a reactive level.
“The Black Moon is an isolated point, a point of neglect, repression, fermentation, and “magical” transformations that belong to a phantasmal, nocturnal, and instinctive/erotic world. It contains all the more instinctual energies (including the atavistic wisdom and clairvoyance, which is dependent on bodily functions) deep within the psyche, of which sexuality is of course paramount, and which manifest themselves in fairy tales and in primitive lunar symbolism: the night, the mystery, the magic, the danger, the secret, the fear, that which is forbidden.”
Lilith, is often too much for the delicate hearts. A person with a strong Lilith signature awakens something dark and sexual or even violent in other people. They can represent what others try to hide. It can be related to sexuality and power or it can be the animal within, the instinctual side that we repress so that we can function in society. Hiding and wounded, our instinct lurks in the shadow waiting to be fed raw or primal experiences. The Lilith person disturbs because, like the animal, it doesn’t follow conventions and doesn’t try to get along (Libra), it just is. Which is not always great for networking. That is why, Lilith tends to be reclusive, staying away from the danger of getting tamed. The need to exercise freewill is stronger than the need to be included. She will not be controlled or managed into submission.
Lilith moving from the earth sign of Virgo to the air sign of Libra gives us a clue on how she might start showing up in the next 9 months. With Libra being an Air sign, anything will primarily pass through the scales of reason. Judging, weighing, the good and the bad and the way it should be, relationship will be the centerfold for the action but Libra is also associated with the justice system, cultures, the arts, diplomacy and fairness.
Because Lilith is a reactive point, she is not something that can be rationalised. That part of yourself/society is experienced directly through the instinct. It cannot be thought through logically. Lilith doesn’t want to be defined and she doesn’t want to adhere to the social mores. When compromising turns sour or when the hurt feelings festering in the dark start smelling too strong we are entering Lilith’s territory. And with Lilith in Libra we are also in the realm of projections.
The New Moon in Libra of October 12
The New Moon in Libra this month is bringing with her a reset button. A chance to take a diplomatic step forward and mend the broken ties. Repair the damages that were done in the process of selfishly affirming our rights. Ultimately everybody wants to be understood. But we want it on our own terms and that is where it gets complicated. We look for love, we want love and we want it when we want it. But seriously, have you thought about how the other person/side might feel? (says Libra) Yes, but what about ME??? (says Aries)
There has to be a balance…
This New Moon in the sign of partnership is receiving a strong opposition from Uranus in Aries who quite frankly doesn’t give a **** about what you think. Plus the South Node of the Moon is still in Aries pulling us down the warrior path with an urge to rebel against anything that threatens our freedom. We might be tempted to demonstrate how strong and independent we are. This has been a recurring theme. Knowing where you stand firmly, then taking a step forward. And this is also why I thought it was important to bring Black Moon Lilith into the equation of this New Moon since she is residing here, in Libra.
We might be oscillating between the need for approval and love from other people and the need to go our own way and lick our wounds. Between flexing our muscles and cuddling. We might be angry or we might be in love or we might be both. We might also bebiased in our judgment of what is just and what is moral. But one thing is certain we want our fair share of the goods and we want justice and peace. And people go to war for justice and peace.

Our attention turns toward authentic communications. Wanting to be heard and seen for who we really are. In order to do so, we leave our pride at the door when we enter partnerships. Fair exchanges means coming from a genuine desire to connect with the other. Without arrogance and without guilt we show our true colours. Keeping our ideas flexible while staying connected to our truth.
